This story was a lot cooler when I heard about it a few days ago, when the headline was "Jay Farrar and Son Volt Re-Unite!"
The news way back then was
that Jay Farrar was getting back together with his former band Son Volt...that they were in the studio working on their fourth album...
that the 5 years that had passed since they broke up felt like 5 days...
that they were picking up where they left off... and
that they were even putting a webcam in the studio so that fans like me could log on and watch them record.
Oh but the difference a couple of days make.
Now, it looks like Farrar and the original Son Volt members never quite got it together. The Boquist brothers (Dave and Jim) and Mike Heidorn are out, and Jay's going it alone with some new bandmates.
Oh well. It was a fun while it lasted, and at least I still got the Red Sox.
The good news is that Jay's drafted some talented musicians into the band, and that they are still forging ahead with a new album. And, oh yeah, there's still a webcam, too. You can find out more details and see the cam at jayfarrar.net.
Here's hoping this Son Volt's as golden as the last one.
